Today, diverse business requirements and technical demands have a significant impact on software systems. Moreover, software is to be based on open architectures that continuously change and evolve to accommodate new components and meet new requirements. There has been exponential growth in the number and variety of systems and components. As these software systems become more complex, it becomes more important to find ways to maintain them. Studies have estimated that companies spend from one-third to one-half of their total ownership cost recovering from or preventing failures. The applicant's proposed research for the evolution of existing software systems involves adjusting their architecture for easy adaption to a diverse set of requirements.
