Global climatic change represents an important threat to ecosystems. Understanding the effects of climatic variability and change on ecosystem processes could help provide tools for mitigating the adverse economic and ecological effects of climatic change. Similarly, understanding how ecosystems respond to climatic change should provide insights into the processes that structure communities. Broadly stated, the purpose of the proposed research is to assess how environmental variability and change have affected forest structure and composition. Specifically, I aim to answer the three following research questions:
