In cells that secrete hormone, a rise in the level of calcium is the signal for the cell to secrete hormone. In order to maintain secretion, calcium has to enter the cells by some pathways. Without these calcium entering pathways, cells cannot continue to secrete hormone. We investigate the nature and the components of the calcium entering pathway that is needed to maintain hormone secretion. The results from our study will help to understand how cells control hormone secretion. This knowledge will be useful in developing drugs to control hormone secretion in diseases related to excessive or deficiency in hormone secretion.
