Proteins are complex supramolecular biological systems that perform a broad variety of tasks in living organisms. Fully comprehending the connections between protein structure and functioning is one of the greatest challenges of the current research in life sciences. We will employ various methods of high-resolution frequency-domain optical spectroscopy at low temperatures, including single molecule spectroscopy, to achieve improved understanding of structure-function relationships in proteins in general and in light-harvesting pigment-protein complexes in particular.
