This grant application is to fund a technical team that provides computer and technical support at Carleton University for research in particle physics. This team consists of a designer, an electronics specialist, a technician and a software and data acquisition expert. This team of people has many years of experience in designing, building and installing detectors for particle physics experiments and in providing computer support for simulation and data acquisition. Highlights of past activities include apparatus built for experiments at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory in Geneva and experiment design for underground physics experiments. For CERN, the group built detectors to locate and measure particle tracks with high precision and very dense detectors to absorb and measure the total energy of particles. For underground physics provided components for the water purification system for the SNO Detector in Sudbury, Ontario and engineering for the EXO detector in WIPP New Mexico.
