Electrochemical oxidation of industrial aqueous waste

Many industrial wastes contain substances that are recalcitrant to conventional treatment, usually because they are hard to oxidize. Electrochemical oxidation is an emerging technology that can often overcome these limitations because under the right conditions it produces short-lived reactive chemical intermediates that attack contaminant substances indiscriminately. In addition, electrochemical oxidation takes place by using an electric current as an energy source, and therefore does not require the addition of chemical additives (i.e., without the addition of one chemical to chase away another). This specific project involves assisting our industrial partner with the treatment of a waste stream that the industrial partner has found hard to remediate.
