Secure City Solutions offers a range of products that allow users to collaborate over the Internet. The collaboration involves the exchange of different media streams (voice, video, desktop sharing, file transfer, etc.). The software was originally designed to work in a LAN environment, where bandwidth is plentiful. When deploying the software over wide-area networks or cellular networks, this is not true anymore, rather the available bandwidth, packet latency, and error rates severely limit the user's Quality of Experience. To deal with such variability, the application has to determine the end-to-end network service available to the application and adapt its behaviour accordingly.
