英文摘要
The bulk chemical industry has been using continuous processes for generations to produce large quantities of material in a safe and scalable manner. Academic and pharmaceutical laboratories are now starting to catch up, rapidly adopting new 'flow chemistry' technologies to achieve faster, more sustainable reactions. Processes developed in flow can be readily carried out on small and large scale, narrowing the gap between fundamental discoveries and industrial application. Our research focuses on the discovery and optimization of new chemistry in flow for ensuring that the chemical industry in Canada is sustainable and profitable over the coming years. This approach to reaction design is bottle-necked by available techniques for analysis. A request is made for a continuous flow IR that monitors composition of matter in real-time. Rapid feedback will allow our groups to design efficient reactors with integrated recycling of waste products, providing more economical, sustainable and scalable chemical processes. Automation of reaction development will also be explored by integrating all components of the optimized chemical reactor for computer-controlled reaction execution, analysis, and interpretation, impacting chemists and engineers around the world working towards a sustainable future. The requested equipment would be the first of its kind in the Quebec/Ontario region, and would be a highly valuable tool for initiating national and international collaborations as well as for training HQP in skills important to the chemical industry such as chemical synthesis, kinetic analysis, and reactor design.
