These funds will assist the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator in developing representative test platforms for evaluation of devices and patient interfaces used to administer medical gases and aerosols. Use of gases in medicine comprises specialized applications in anesthesia, critical care, lung imaging, and diagnosis of respiratory disease, as well as administration of supplemental oxygen throughout the continuum of care - from home to hospital to emergency settings. Aerosol drug delivery is widespread in the treatment of respiratory diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis.
