英文摘要
The main goal is to understand the nature of compact objects and their explosive formation in supernovae. To achieve this, observation and modeling studies of neutron stars in binaries will be carried out, with the aim of mass-radius measurement for constraining the equation-of-state of dense matter. Studies of the accretion flow in X-ray binaries will enable further understanding of the interaction between the compact object and its environment, as well as understanding the evolution of binary systems which depends on mass transfer between the stars in a binary. To understand formation of compact objects, observational and theoretical/modeling studies of supernovae and supernovae remnants will be carried out. As part of determining physical properties of galactic supernovae remnants, hydrogen-line absorption observations will be analyzed to determine distances and X-ray spectroscopic data will be obtained and modeled to determine the state of the hot plasma. I participated in the development of hardware and software for the ultraviolet(UV) telescope on the soon-to-be-launched ASTROSAT X-ray/UV/optical observatory, and I plan to participate in the science program of ASTROSAT by observing compact objects, supernovae and supernova remnants. The question of whether neutron stars can contain or be entirely composed of the quark phase of matter is an open question. For this, research on the observable properties of quark stars will be carried out. This includes determination if the accreting-quark-star model for Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters(SGRs) and Anomalous X-ray Pulsars(AXPs), developed by Ouyed and Leahy, can consistently describe new observations. Related to compact object formation, it also includes studying whether the explosive conversion of a neutron star into a quark star (the quark nova) can explain super-luminous supernovae and nucleosythesis in some rare supernovae.
