Service oriented systems are the information systems built upon Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) or the legacy systems wrapped as Web services that can be invoked through WSDL interfaces. SOA as a new system paradigm promises interoperability, scalability, and composability.
Service oriented systems should fast compose into a new application to fulfill new business goals and resolve themselves when the work is done. If any faults occur or business goals changed at run time, service oriented systems should evolve and adapt to the changes. We need automatic approaches to integrate the service oriented systems to realize these advanced features. As the interfaces and internal business processes of the services are independently designed and developed, automatic integration of service oriented systems is still very difficult. We think automated service composition is a basis approach to achieve integration. On top of current automated service composition techniques, we want to not only consider services without internal behavior, but also service with international behavior, not only achieve functional requirements, but also achieve non-functional requirements, not only consider interfaces, but also consider the data values of the parameters; not only consider SOAP services, but also the other types of services, e.g. RESTful services. On top of automated service composition, we will study adaptation mechanism to react to changes. We are especially interested in services over clouds and mobile devices and will study integration issues with these services.
We will advance this area by developing theories, methodologies, as well as engineering tools to support the integration of the service oriented systems. We will apply our research results in real world with our industrial partners.
