英文摘要
There is a pressing need to train the next generation of environmental scientists in advanced technologies like geomatics, mass spectrometry, environmental impact assessment, genomic analysis, and environmental modeling, in order to meet contemporary needs of industry, government and the broader Canadian society. Yet, this new generation of environmental professionals must possess a modern, integrative approach not only in terms of technical skills, but also with respect to the translation of research products to a variety of stakeholders ranging from policy makers, to Aboriginal communities, to the general public.
The NSERC CREATE program for training high quality personnel in Advanced Environmental Technologies (ADVENT) will be hosted by Trent University, with nodes at University of Toronto and Queens University. The program falls directly in line with NSERC CREATE's priority area: Environmental Science and Technologies, and will consist of a course-based Professional Science Masters degree, as well as training of MSc and PhD graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The program will include integrative and applied courses in aspects of environmental sciences, workshops, field excursions, internships, research projects, and an annual showcase. In addition to providing strong training in environmental technologies, the program will emphasize communication, socio-cultural contexts, and professional skills training. The program will be supported by online modules, interdisciplinary team teaching, and interactions with diverse professionals. Ultimately, the program will become a national leader in training the next generation of environmental professionals, and contribute directly to making Canada a world leader in environmental sciences and technologies.
