The objective of this proposed research is to develop a workable framework of the "New Generation Green DP System" and evaluate the feasibility of the system in a simulated environment. The proposed DP system will have the following capabilities:(i) automatically determines the optimal setpoints for vessels to minimize fuel consumption, (ii) can predict loss of position under different disturbance scenario, and (iii) provide decision support to operators in case of equipment failure. The newly developed DP system will provide a more accurate, green and safer position control of vessels that require dynamic positioning in harsh environment with extreme wind, wave and ice conditions.
