This work will be devoted to the large-scale, reliable, and low cost synthesis of important conjugated polymers for applications in plastic electronics. In particular, the targeted materials are seen as excellent candidates for the development of low-cost and printable solar cells. Up to now, such polymeric materials were obtained from relatively complicated synthetic methods but on the basis of recent developments performed in our laboratory, it is anticipated that their synthesis could be now obtained from simple and non-toxic compounds. These advances will not only simplify the synthesis of such polymeric materials but should help to decrease their cost while improving their reproducibility and performance. In agreement with our partner, we will adapt our synthetic approaches to fit with industrial requirements for large scale synthesis and will only use conventional solvents in non-pressurized systems.
