Centennial College is partnering with a portable electronic devise security company uConekt Inc. to develop
security protocols for its software and hardware. Mobile device security practitioners must implement best
practices to detect and mitigate malware and advanced persistent threats by leveraging both existing and
innovative security technologies in their mobile wireless architectures. By working closely with Centennial
College's School of Engineering Technology and Applied Sciences, a company like uConekt Inc. has the
potential to solve this problem. Faculty researchers and students from the Information and Communication
Engineering Technology program will develop the partner's patent-pending secure pairing protocol. Given the
proliferation of virus, malware and security threats in the smartphone industry, the researchers have to start
with the underlying source code-base. With its Secure Mobile strategy, innovative approach to hardwareenhanced
security, and unique software threat intelligence system, uConekt is working with the college to keep
its customers safe. The proposed research will enable Centennial's researchers to develop best practices and
secure software technologies for a wireless device and test these solutions at the college.
