英文摘要
This project involves the re-design of Spongelab Interactive's Build-a-Body software, which engages users in learning about human anatomy, to incorporate large volumes of newly acquired genetic data (e.g., genes related to lung cancer). The main computer science challenge for this project includes evaluating a combination of visualization techniques (e.g., heatmap, network diagrams) and interactions (e.g., annotating, filtering, transforming) to inform the re-design of the visual and interactive components of this software. These two components have the greatest effect on the user's experience (i.e., amount of enjoyment and depth of understanding), and need to be designed carefully using appropriate state-of-the-art design frameworks and techniques. The re-designed software will be significantly enhanced relative to its current version, ensuring Build-a-Body will remain competitive and a leading product in the marketplace. This will have direct economic benefits for Spongelab Interactive. In a broader sense though, it will also benefit the users of this software (e.g., students in high-school, undergraduate biology, and nursing) and the field of computer science through evaluating state-of-the-art visualization and interaction design frameworks and techniques in a commercial product.
