Vehicles using LPG (so: called propane) and gasoline have recently become in may parts of the world due to reduced cost and environmental impact and increased efficiency and effectiveness. Due to these benefits, Transport Canada encourages development of conversion system of conventional light duty vehicles to LPG. In this project, Delia Ltd. will work together with UOIT research team led by Dr. I. Dincer to further develop, improve and optimize their system through the NSERC Engage program. The system developed by Delia Ltd consists mainly of an injection rail system which is cooled by throttled liquid LPG inside the rail such that the fuel is distributed as subcooled liquid to the injectors. The team will closely work with the industrial partner to improve the injectors rail design by inventing and analyzing various system alternatives such as: i) including a gas liquid separator into the rail, ii) fumigating the throttled liquid into the intake manifold, iii) integration of a mini-refrigeration compressor driven by vehicle battery (below 20 W consumption) which will return the throttled fuel into the tank and empty the rail prior switching back to gasoline, iv) integration of a heat pipe system into the rail using LPG as working fluid such that a more effective cooling process is obtained.
