Network and topology discovery in Internet of Things

Emergent information-technology Internet of Things (IoT) has been identified among the Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2012 by Gartner, Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company. This new paradigm transforms the traditional Internet into a smart environment based on intelligent interconnections of diverse objects in the physical world. The devices at the heart of IoT have low-cost but powerful information gathering and dissemination capabilities. IoT will usher in a wide range of smart applications and services, including for example, remote healthcare monitoring systems and home automation. The objective of this project is to assist Solana Networks to explore the technologies and protocols that have been proposed and deployed for the Internet of Things, and to analyze the various challenges that will be encountered when developing an automated topology discovery tool for a heterogeneous network for Internet of Things. It is part of the objective to establish a test bed for a specific example application of the Internet of Things.
