The focus of this proposal is on understanding, at the molecular level, the mechanisms by which cells migrate from one place to another. Cells are constructed much like houses; they have an internal rigid structure like the lumber that frames a home and an external skin akin to walls and a roof. When cells move, they must alter both their external and internal structure. Scientists describe this process as remodeling. A fundamental issue in cell biology is understanding how remodeling is controlled and how it is coordinated with other cellular processes such as cell divisions.
