The focus of this proposal is on understanding, at the molecular level, the mechanisms by which cells migrate from one place to another. Cells are constructed much like houses; they have an internal rigid structure like the lumber that frames a home and an external skin akin to walls and a roof. When cells move, they must alter both their external and internal structure. Scientists describe this process as remodeling. A fundamental issue in cell biology is understanding how remodeling is controlled and how it is coordinated with other cellular processes such as cell divisions.******There are three goals of this proposal. In the first we will identify the pathway by which the FLNa protein regulates cell migration. In the second we will determine how co-operation between tow proteins, FHOD1 and Vimentin, control cell migration. In the final goal, we will determine how the protein PI4KIIIß controls in which direction cells decide to.******This works hopes to understand the basic and fundamental process of cell migration. We hope to train three people in this important aspect of science. **
