We plan to develop Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods to address, in a cohesive and state-of-the-art manner, some long pending issues of in-flight icing to which only empirical rules had been applied. Some of these approaches can be shown to also be of importance to the fields of wind turbines and for computational wind engineering, long based on wind tunnel testing. As such, the proposed research is broad in its engineering applications perspective, but tightly interconnected in its underlying mathematics and computational methodology.
