Buildings account for approximately 40% of the world's energy use, resulting in carbon emissions that are substantially more than the transportation sector. Recently, numerous attempts have been made in addressing energy efficiency in new, as well as existing public buildings, which is a cornerstone of reducing global energy-related carbon footprint and stabilizing CO2. There is an urgent need for innovative techniques and tools to facilitate the appropriate management of building systems to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) burden globally. Proposed research aimed at exploring innovative and effective retrofit solutions to improve energy efficiency and implement renewable energy solutions in public buildings in Canada.
