A critical problem associated with UV disinfection systems, in general, is the lack of testing using the specific human pathogens that are deemed to be UV resistant. The main issue resides in the differences in UV susceptibility between the non-pathogenic surrogates that are typically utilized in UV disinfection testing and the pathogens they are representing. For adenovirus this is particularly problematic as it is considered one of the most UV resistant human pathogens. Adenovirus requires several fold higher UV doses than other microorganisms to achieve a 4log reduction. In addition, even after UV exposure the virus may still release its
