Remediation of Brownfields is an important focus of government and non-government agencies. All agencies and the public are concerned about the presence of contaminated sites in various communities, and would like the sites remediated so that possible adverse health issues can be removed and a vibrant city scape developed. The National Round Table on Environment and Economy (NRTEE) has estimated that 30,000 contaminated sites exist in Canada. Fortunately, environmental research has become an NSERC priority, including soil remediation to prevent long term groundwater contamination. Bioventing is a good way to remediate sites contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, which includes many Brownfields.
