NightShift optimizes customers' bandwidth usage when using streaming services. It does this by taking advantage of off-peak bandwidth availability to cache digital media content addressing both problems of limited bandwidth (which impacts real-time streaming) and bandwidth quotas (which can result in bandwidth throttling or overage charges). Caching is done via a locally installed network storage device that preserves digital rights management (DRM) features while still creating a content viewing experience indistinguishable from live streaming, i.e. as a NightShift customer, to view, for example, Netflix content, you open Netflix and requested content is accessed from the local cache transparently to the end user.
