Investigating the challenges of designing and executing an integrated design process in the context of HDAPs

Over the last decades, doing business in the building architecture and engineering sector has become increasingly difficult. The difficulties stem from the growing complexity of projects as well as the increasing number of standards that guide and constraints building construction projects in Canada (LEED, etc.). In order to tackle such difficulties, the concept of an integrated design process (IDP) has been put forward. Since the concept of an IDP is recent, companies are struggling to adopt and leverage it effectively. In addition, there is a growing shift in the industry towards highly decomposing large construction projects into various concerns (e.g. architecture, engineering, construction, etc.) that are then allocated to different firms.
