Brown rot fungi, including Serpula lacrymans, Coniophora puteana, and Meruliporia (Serpula) incrassata, along with common indoor fungal contaminants, Stachybotrys atra (chartarum), and Aureobasidium pullulans, contribute to common problems such as wood rot, dry wall damage, and health and well-being issues. The purpose of the proposed research is to determine whether or not Bio-Treat and Bio-Treat Gel, commercial products produced by Stellchem Inc., can inhibit fungal growth in culture and in wood or on cellulosic materials such as drywall. If the product is found to be inhibitory to fungi, then effective concentrations will be determined. In addition, persistence of the inhibition for a period of up to four months will be assessed.
