The ability to change the focal length in an optical system without translating the optical elements is advantageous in many applications. The technology developed at York University uses a novel technique based on interfacial phenomenon to create a tunable liquid cylindrical lens. As such, the lens can be used in a variety of applications, so it is important to identify the ones with the highest commercial potential. The market assessment proposed here will help us to develop business strategies, and create a clear understanding of the target markets, competitive landscape and market barriers. Furthermore, it will allow us to focus further technical development of the technology towards the high value markets and applications.
