项目摘要
The NSERC-Agnico-Eagle Industrial Research Chair in Mineral Exploration aims to develop new indicator mineral and field portable methodologies that can be applied to exploration for gold deposits. The research will tackle fundamental and applied aspects in order to devise innovative and efficient indicator mineral methods that can be applied in exploration for gold deposits by industry and for government surveys to determine the potential for undiscovered mineral resources. The methods will allow to fingerprint the chemical and isotopic signature of orogenic gold deposits, and assess the gold mineralization potential, or fertility, of the dispersed track of partially eroded deposits. The Chair will develop new methodologies using field portable instruments to increase the efficiency of mineral exploration and government surveys to detect, in the field, gold mineral deposits buried under quaternary sedimentary cover. In order to reach these goals, the Chair research program will address three themes: 1) indicator mineral (chalcopyrite, scheelite, tourmaline) fingerprinting and fertilitytools for orogenic gold deposits; 2) long range detection of orogenic gold deposits in glacial sediments; 3) field portable analytical instruments application to exploration in glaciated terrains.
