Research conducted with support from this NSERC Discovery Grant falls under two themes:Theme 1: We will develop a quantitative assessment of the magnitude of the permafrost and high latitude carbon cycle feedbacks on future climate change by incorporating the effects of wetland methane production. We will also examine the role of wetland methane emissions in potentially explaining the variations in atmospheric methane concentrations observed in paleoclimate ice core records from the last glacial cycleTheme 2: We will develop a comprehensive understanding of the response of the North Atlantic Meridional Overturning to global warming as projected by numerous Earth System Models in use around the world. We will further explore the potential effect that future melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet will have on this response.
