This project is aimed at applying the knowledge of value chain optimization, business analytics and heat map, more increasingly used for business intelligence, to engineer an advanced business analytic tool for BRQ Fibre& Broyure (BRQ). The objective is to allow the managers of the company to evaluate different businessalternatives on products, customers, suppliers, locations in order to make effective and profitable businessdecisions to support the business growth. BRQ is a Quebec-based company providing recycling services thattransform waste wood from construction, renovation and demolition (CRD) materials into certified cleanindustrial grade materials, such as wood chips, fibrous carbon materials, organic biomass. In businessdevelopment, one of the challenges that the manager faces is to identify the customers and suppliers, which arestrategically located and their demand and supplies are aligned well with their production and stockingcapabilities in order to reduce value chain cost and improve both business operations and profits. Thecomplexity is that recycling process is a divergent process. Different sorting strategies can be used in theprocess, which produces different proportions of products, at different costs, and lead to different inventorylevels. Depending on the customer and supplier locations, selling prices and transportation costs are different. The company also faces seasonal demand and supplies. With the recent upgrading of the enterprise resourceplanning (ERP) system, this project will help the company in advancing the business analytics system and willlead to a significant improvement of the decision making process. In this project, we will work closely with theBRQ managers, engineer and the ERP technical personnel to understand the value chain operations. Then, avalue chain optimization model and marginal value heat map will be developed and connected. This advancedbusiness analytic tool will allow managers to effectively evaluate different business alternatives, visualizebusiness intensity changes and identify the most profitable strategy.
