Geocell is a type of three-dimensional honeycomb geosynthetics that is widely used to improve theperformance of paved and unpaved roads by reinforcing the base/subbase courses. It has numerous advantagessuch as improvement of long-term performance of roadways, reduction of construction cost, and reduction ofcarbon footprint. Although geocell has been widely used in roadway construction in cold climatic regions, research regarding the behavior of geocell-reinforced bases subjected to freeze-thaw cycles is rather scarce. Agood understanding of the effect of freeze-thaw cycles on the performance of geocell-reinforced bases is vitalto the design and construction of roadways. This project will help Stratum Logics get insight into themechanisms of geocell reinforcement in roadways under freeze-thaw effects and improve the design method toensure the serviceability of roadways in Canada.
