AnimationLeader Technology Inc. is a Calgary-based company that has motion-tracking system and offersphysiotherapists a digital onboarding process, a vision-based assessment tool, an intelligent exerciserecommendation portal and an interactive compliance tracking app to automate the whole process of objectiveexamination, exercise instruction and compliance tracking in an accurate, data driven and engaging way. Theirtechnology called Physio4D will help practitioners to prescribe customized exercises, track whether the patientis doing the exercise correctly, and assess the effectiveness of the prescribed exercises. To have more accuratereal-time assessments for the exercises, they want to see a representation of the person's joints and bones.Using mixed reality devices will help them to overlay a digital skeleton on the patients' body and do real-timemeasurements while the patient is doing exercises. Also, for each patient, the company is collecting data pointsand tracks the patient's progress to evaluate the benefits of the prescribed exercises. However, since the numberof exercises is high (Some exercise programs have more than 10,000 exercises), the company is looking forways to find normative data for each injury category to develop recommendations for an effective andpersonalized rehab plan. The project goal is to investigate whether mixed reality devices can help the clinicians get a betterunderstanding on how patients can keep a good posture during functional tests such as lifting endurance over aperiod of time and use machine learning to analyze collected measurements and develop predictive metrics fora personalized rehab plan using (frozen) shoulder injuries as a case study.Concretely, we will investigate ifmixed reality real-time visualizations using a Microsoft HoloLens to project information on top of the patientdoing the exercises can increase the accuracy of performing the exercise and has positive healing effects for thearea of injury. We will also use machine learning techniques to investigate the impact of prescribed exerciseson the outcomes. If successful, the research can help develop evidence-based personalized rehab plans and
