Efficient and sustainable energy supplies are essential to the prosperity of Canadian economy. Presently, pressures to meet international goals for climate-change mitigation, combined with local needs to satisfy increasing energy demands and meet environmental regulations, represent Canada's greatest challenges in managing energy systems. The objective of this CRC program is to develop a set of spatially- distributed energy-and-environmental systems-analysis and risk-management methodologies and apply them to multiple Canadian regions. The results will help reveal complexities in energy-and-environmental systems and obstacles that hinder sustainable energy development. Thus, scientific bases can be provided for formulating desired policies that are of enormous socio-economic implications.
