The oil and gas industry is increasingly aiming to establish operations in remote and harsh offshore environments in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Responsible development of these resources is a global responsibility. The proposed research program will aim to develop new and innovative safety and risk management systems for such offshore operations in harsh environments. This research will build upon current best practices in industry and extends past contributions by the applicant in risk and safety engineering. The Chair will raise the profile of this important topic nationally and internationally, strengthen research capacity in this field, facilitate new interactions with industry, and contribute to the training of highly qualified personnel.
