Aircraft Modeling and Simulation Technologies

New modeling and simulation methodologies will be developed through two major research axes: (i) advanced flight dynamics and controls applied on rotorcraft and aircraft and ii) active control technologies for aircraft morphing applications using aeroservoelasticity knowledge. In the first axis, flight dynamics modeling for rotorcraft will be developed using new nonlinear optimization algorithms. Aircraft stability analyses, for different flight regimes, based on a minimum amount of aircraft geometrical data, will also be performed. These new methodologies will be validated using available rotorcraft flight test data, as well as geometrical data for business and military aircraft. In the second axis, the wings and other geometrical surfaces of a research aerial system will be equipped with flexible skins that will allow, through various active control systems, their morphing, to improve its aerodynamic performances. A research aircraft flight simulator, a large subsonic blown down wind tunnel and a research aerial system will be used for experimental validation.
