Computer systems from simple desktop PCs to high-performance computer clusters rely on parallel processing power. As the number of components and the complexity of their interconnectionincreases, the difficulty of dealing with the resulting asynchrony and faulty behaviour also increases. Probabilistic methods have proved useful to overcome some of the problems associated with asynchrony and faultiness. The goal of this research program is to apply probabilistic methods to design efficient and concurrent algorithms, and to explore limits of randomized algorithms. Algorithms developed in this research program can be used as building blocks and improve the performance of distributed systems.
