The behavior of electrons in small conductors at low temperature cannot be explained by usual laws of physics, valid in the macroscopic world at room temperature. Instead, one has to invoke quantum mechanics to understand laws of electricity in such conditions, in particular to understand the fluctuations of voltage and current in such conductors. The goal of this research program is to explore how our knowledge of quantum electron transport in nanostructures can be used to generate non-classical microwave signals with quantum properties tailored for the processing of information.
