The proposed CRC project seeks to identify the impacts of environmental change on the hydrology, biogeochemistry and ecology of sensitive ecosystems. The first theme focuses on the development of a more complete understanding of the controls that regulate the amount of inorganic mercury and methylmercury in both the aquatic and terrestrial food webs. The second theme focuses on the way in which the specific factors associated with climate change are going to affect the ecology and biogeochemistry of northern peatlands, and as a consequence their impacts on downstream water quality in terms of dissolved organic carbon and methylmercury export.
