英文摘要
Human activities (e.g. fisheries, shipping) increasingly affect aquatic ecosystems. Because we rely on these ecosystems for basic needs such as food, conserving them is a priority of national and international agencies. But, how? Aquatic species are difficult to study. They live in challenging environments and are often hidden from sight. My research group will develop reliable statistical methods that make the most of the available information (e.g. animal movement tracks) to improve fisheries management procedures and identify geographic areas important for conservation. The new methods will provide the means to understand and conserve aquatic animals in Canada and beyond.
