The main objective of the CRC in High-Sensitivity Radiometers and Receivers research program is the development of novel receivers and beamforming methods to improve the sensitivity of antenna arrays for radio-astronomy and commercial applications. The goal of this program is to develop such systems by focusing on multi-dimensional beamformers and multi-port receivers. These will result in more sophisticated beamforming transfer functions, thereby enabling additional degrees of freedom in terms of beam bandwidth, orientation, and pattern. Multi-port receivers will make use of the spectral sparsity of incoming signals to isolate desired signals from noise and distortions associated with the array electronics.
