Husky Energy is one of Canada's largest integrated energy companies. In the summer of 2016, the company experienced an above-ground pipeline spill that released contaminants into the North Saskatchewan River. Husky Energy is committed to both cleaning up the river and restoring fish habitat, however; information gaps concerning resident juvenile lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) populations may result in inefficient allocation of resources and missed opportunities to improve the status of this endangered species. Working with the Natural Resource Technology (NRT) Program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Sask Polytech), Husky Energy proposes a research initiative designed to address these information gaps. Lake sturgeon spawning areas will be identified and mapped, along with young of the year (YOY) and juvenile habitats.**
