英文摘要
Chemicals are at the heart of all past, present, and future industrial innovation and furnish products that are pervasive in all aspects of life, providing not only cosmetics, energy, fuels, dyes, textiles, and flavours but also medicinal drugs to treat debilitating diseases. Hence, the Canadian manufacturing and fine chemical sectors play a significant impact on the Canadian economy, also affecting the health, safety and standard of living of Canadians. To stay globally competitive, Canadian chemical and allied industries need more sustainable and environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes that are both safe for employees and economically sound. Continuous flow science has emerged as a revolutionary, environmentally sound technology to fulfill these requirements, because it offers numerous advantages, including increased efficiency, safety and cost-savings on both small and large scales. The main objective of this CREATE program in Continuous Flow Science will be to enhance the educational training of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows working in chemistry and chemical engineering by providing them with a combination of value-added activities that go beyond the normal academic setting. Through the award of stipends or travel funds and in partnerships with industry, they will be offered a wide range of courses, summer school, workshops, exchange internships, conferences as well as hands-on training on related infrastructure. In return, students will gain the real world knowledge and practical skills to become the leaders of tomorrow who, in the long run, will transform the chemical manufacturing sector and contribute to the growth of the Canadian economy. Graduates will definitely become sought-after candidates for any employers in the chemical synthesis, chemical analysis and chemical engineering industries as well as in the academic, governmental and legal sectors.**
