From tweets and emails to academic papers, millions of economically and culturally* important linguistic data items are produced daily. Many of us experience information *overload when faced with an overwhelming volume of textual data. Managing and *understanding linguistic data is an urgent problem and significant economic drain on *society. The research in Linguistic Information Visualization will combine automated *language analysis, such as classifying documents by topic, with new interactive *information graphics which support engaging exploration of language data. Designed *for desktop computers and emerging technologies such as large touch screens, the *results will improve efficiency, reduce overload, and increase understanding and *application of linguistic data.
