Synthetic chemistry is a critical component of modern chemical manufacturing that affords society everything from medicines, cosmetics, textiles and materials. The design of synthetic chemical routes for large scale production is shifting away from batch processes to continuous flow processes, which offer several advantages that are highly sought after by industrial partners including facile scale-up, increased safety, energy efficiency and decreased waste produced. The current proposal involves the development of new photochemical processes that are of interest to drug development efforts of Intellisyn. Consequently, investigation of continuous flow alternatives to render those processes practical for scale-up will be evaluated. These studies would translate into improved synthesis processes, and accelerate the development and manufacture of specialty chemicals related to the drug discovery, development or pharmaceutical industries in general. This would result in direct benefits for the technology sector of Canada and contribute to the continued growth of the chemical industry within Canada, leading to overall boosts in the economy.**
