Central to biodiversity conservation is the understanding of how species coexist and respond to environmental change in landscapes. This project proposes research aiming to understand the mechanisms of biodiversity maintenance, model and predict the impact of the change in land use and climate, and develop methods and tools for assessing extinction risk of threatened species and vulnerable ecosystems. Multidisciplinary and synergetic approaches including international collaboration will be taken to achieve this research. Research results will provide scientific support to the innovative sustainable management of ecosystems and inform land use policies, critical to the resource-based economy of Canada.*
