The need for big data computation is increasing in many fields including science, engineering and business. Further, web browsers are providing increasingly powerful computation engines, and the proliferation of web-connected devices provides huge amounts of idle resources. Thus, an interesting research question is: 'Can the power of web browsers and web-connected devices be used to provide an effective platform for big data computation?'.**The proposed research tackles this question through a novel approach of "array programming in the large" by investigating how array programming languages can provide effective computation for big data through utilizing computing power in web browsers and by integrating array programming and in-memory databases.
