The goal of this project is to investigate the failure of ceramic used in personal protection platforms developed by Grey Ghost Gear of Canada. We accomplish this goal through compression experiments and characterization, which will be linked with impact performance testing by GGGC. In turn, these will be guide manufacturing decisions of Grey Ghost Gear of Canada in terms of material selection and protection systems geometries. Combined, the knowledge gained through this research program will allow GGGC to the design of lighter and more effective body armor used in combat. This will reduce injuries and save the lives of Canadian soldiers.
