Brain research has been largely successful in elucidating the function of individual brain regions. However, the mechanisms by which information is exchanged between distinct areas remain enigmatic. The goal of my research is to significantly expand our understanding of cortical communication and brain network dynamics by (a) exploring their neuronal mechanisms and (b) unravelling their role in cognition. To this end we will use a unique combination of invasive and non-invasive brain measurements and state-of-the-art neuro-imaging, signal processing and artificial intelligence methods. Our findings will critically enhance our understanding of brain connectivity in health, and ultimately its breakdown in disease.
