Multicellular organisms rely on signal transduction cascades to control important biological responses such as cell growth, differentiation and survival. Understanding the biochemical basis of these protein-protein interactions is of key importance in defining how particular mutations can contribute to pathological conditions. This research program uses a multi-disciplinary approach to investigate the molecular mechanisms that underlie cellular communication. This research is cutting edge and fundamental to understanding aspects of development, kidney function, blood vessel formation and nervous system patterning, and the discoveries may ultimately contribute to the establishment of new treatment strategies for human pathologies such as renal disease and cancer.
